Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) - Adelaide 26 April 2025

This course is a multidynamic, hands on simulation based day that provides training and refresher in first response scenarios for rural doctors. Created by experienced Rural Generalists, pre-hospital and retrieval specialists, the course will consolidate your emergency skills in unfamiliar or uncomfortable environments. This program is a development based, supportive learning environment that will support you in preparing for patient care situations outside of the clinic or hospital.

Please note PHEC is run in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Learning objectives
  • Principles of first response, ambulance, rotary and fixed wing retrieval
  • Initial response in the prehospital/preretrieval environment
  • Airway management in difficult environments
  • Principles of extrication and Pt packaging for transport
  • Traumatic arrest
  • IV and IO access in difficult environments; appropriate for transport
  • Procedural sedation and analgesia

Additional information

It is mandatory that participants be present for the entire duration of the course. Therefore it is highly recommended for interstate travellers to arrive at the course location at least one day prior to the commencement of the course.

If for any reason a participant arrives after the course has commenced or departs before the end of the course, they will be ineligible to receive a Certificate of Attendance or the allocated PDP/QI&CPD points. The participant will be required to re-book which will incur additional charges.
