The HEART course is a professional well-being program like
no other — designed by Rural Generalists, for Rural Generalists. It equips
participants with the knowledge and skills to protect their well-being from the
psychosocial hazards inherent in rural medical practice.
Taking a systems approach, it explores the factors that
shape the experiences of rural doctors. Drawing on concepts from systems theory,
human factors, and applied psychology, the course examines how systems, culture,
teams, and individual factors interact to influence daily practice and
well-being.
Through four interconnected modules, participants build
practical skills to strengthen protective factors, reduce risks to well-being,
and respond effectively to challenges. The course supports Rural Generalists to
sustain their health, provide safer care to their communities, and build a
fulfilling, long-term medical career.
