Maintenance of NDC Accreditation: Breastfeeding, Feeds, Infant Crying, Sleep, Parent Mood - 01/01/2026 - 31/12/2028

Self-paced over 1 year if NDC Accredited. 22 EAs + 3 RP = total 25 hrs at $325. Maintenance of NDC Accreditation gives GPs with special interest in the care of parents with babies opportunity to consolidate advanced skills. Start at any time. NDC Maintenance requires

  1. Live Network Hours (Zoom case discussions) once a month on Wednesdays 6 -7 pm AEST at least 3 but as many as desired;
  2. 2 x 1 hr Clinical Demonstration (selected Wednesdays 7-8 pm AEST);
  3. Access to e-learning resources (20 hrs) including assessment and management tools, parent handouts, parent online programs, podcasts, blogs, articles and Dr Douglas’s conference presentations over a period of years;
  4. Access to closed online peer support
  5. Possibility of participating as Educator for EAs in one or more Live Network Hours (not guaranteed).

NDC Accreditation is a pre requisite to NDC Maintenance.  NDC Maintenance is required for continued use of the NDC Accreditation license.

Pre/Post activity
The participant selects areas in which they wish to upskill and self-paces access to extensive e-learning content - reading/listening/watching videos. The content includes parent handouts, clinical assessment and management tools, Dr Pamela Douglas's conference presentations from recent years, podcasts, blogs, articles, research articles.
Learning objectives

1. Presented a case in an NDC Accreditation Maintenance Live Network Hour

2. On self-reflection, identified areas of weakness in delivery of NDC or Possums programs in clinical practice, and then listened/viewed/read four hours of content from the NDC Accreditation Resources in that specific area

3. Read 4 research publications by Pam and her teams.

Educate other GPs and health professionals in at least one Live Network Hour

 

 

Assessment information

The participant self-reflects, writes in workbooks, and iteratively assesses their learning needs in order to access relevant content within the NDC Resources.

Evaluation by Survey Monkey questionnaire completed at end of the year.

An evaluation of the effectiveness of the NDC programs in rural and remote Australia was conducted by a Western Sydney University (WSU) research team, led by Professor Virginia Schmied. The 2024 report concluded that health professionals who completed the training were significantly more confident to support parents with issues relating to four major perinatal challenges– breastfeeding, infant sleep, cry-fuss and perinatal mental health and wellbeing.

  1. Live Network Hours (online case discussions) once a month for NDC Accreditation Maintenance pathway participants only (advanced practitioners)
  2. Clinical Demonstrations with voluntary parents and babies by Dr Douglas
  3. Closed online chat group for peer support – Maintenance group only
  4. Access to a wealth of resources for health professionals: clinical tools, parent handouts, parent online programs (under development) and Dr Pamela Douglas’s conference presentations over a period of years
  5. Opportunity to participate as Educator in NDC Accreditation pathway (not guaranteed, not compulsory)

Participation in Maintenance of NDC Accreditation allows a GP to continue to be identified as NDC Accredited.
