The recommendations from the GPMHSC report highlighted
the need for training that extends the knowledge and confidence of GPs in
diagnosing and supporting patients with mental health conditions. The GP Mental
Health Skills Masterclass is tailored to GPs and covers diagnostic and
interviewing skills, psychological and psychopharmacological therapies and
implementation of a comprehensive and holistic treatment based on a
patient-centred approach, thus leveraging on the core competencies of a GP in
managing Mental Health issues. The course will be delivered in stages in an
interactive format with videos, quizzes and case studies. The GPMHST case
studies focus on common presentations (e.g. addiction, trauma, anxiety and
depression) that are patient-centric Thus, the GPMHST has a broad appeal to all
GPs by being time and cost-effective. The course has already been delivered to
1000 + GPs across Australia with feedback incorporated at each stage of
development. By addressing the needs of Australian GPs we hope to make a
difference in mental health and well-being across Australia.
