Focussed Psychological Strategies: Interpersonal Therapy in Practice - 01/01/2026 - 15/12/2026

The aim of this training is to provide participants with knowledge and skills related to the use of Focused Psychological Strategies (FPS) in practice. The training provides an update on mental health problems in Australia (epidemiology), comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment planning, and use of the relevant Medicare item numbers (including FPS items).

Participants are then guided through the background and applied theory of a very practical and evidence-based approach, namely  Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). There is a strong focus on skills development related to IPT which includes interpersonal inventories, timelines, genograms, communication analysis, communication skills training, grief counselling and strategies to cope with change and transitions. Their application in practice will be covered so that participants go away with good understanding of the IPT framework and specific strategies to apply in practice.
