Advanced Life Support (ALS 2) Blended - Recertification - 01/01/2026 - 31/12/2026

This recertification course provides hybrid eLearning and a 4 hour face to face delivery to refresh and maintain your ALS knowledge and skills. This half day program provides a rapid pace to update resuscitation skills in a supportive environment. It's ideal if you frequently attend resuscitation events and have current ALS certification. 

The course follows ANZCOR and ILCOR guidelines and is taught by experienced clinical educators. Certification requires a theory exam, demonstration of BLS, and participation in team-based simulations.

Pre/Post activity
The pre-program learning is self-directed online learning and is designed to develop an understanding of the principles of resuscitation science, reinforce current resuscitation guidelines (BLS and PALS), update new recommendations and evidence.
Learning objectives

LO.1Identify a seriously ill patient including the demonstration of assessing a patient using the ABCDE approach.

LO.2Demonstrate the structured approach to resuscitation and treatment of a patient experiencing clinical deterioration and cardiorespiratory arrest.

LO.3Demonstrate how to assess an unresponsive patient and perform basic life support.

LO.4Demonstrate how to perform airway manoeuvres and use basic airway adjuncts.

LO.5Demonstrate use of the appropriate advanced airway equipment and demonstrate/describe the following procedures; Bag Valve Mask Ventilation and ETCO2 monitoring; Insertion of supraglottic airway; Tracheal intubation.

LO.6Determine and administer at appropriate intervals all resuscitation medication.

LO.7Describe equipment and procedure for intraosseous cannulation

LO. 8Demonstrate safe use of a manual defibrillator minimising time off chest for rhythm analysis/defibrillation/disarming during simulation-based scenario

LO.9Demonstrate resuscitation team leader skills during a simulated scenario including; non-technical skills (closed loop communication, situational awareness, prioritisation).

LO.10Describe post resuscitation cares following an ABCDE approach.


Assessment information
  • Knowledge is reinforced throughout the eLearning modules  

  • Formal knowledge assessment via a 40-question multiple-choice examination  

  • Minimum pass mark: 80%  

  • MCQ assessment aligns directly with content delivered in the eLearning modules  

Additional information
This half day program provides a rapid pace to update resuscitation skills in a supportive environment. It's ideal if you frequently attend resuscitation events and have current ALS certification. This course is not suitable for novice clinicians or those who have not completed ALS training in the last 18 months.
