Paediatric Advanced Life Support - Recertification - 01/01/2026 - 31/12/2026

This recertification course provides hybrid eLearning and a 4 hour face to face delivery to refresh and maintain your PALS knowledge and skills. This half day program provides a rapid pace to update resuscitation skills in a supportive environment. It's ideal if you frequently attend resuscitation events and have current PALS certification.

The course follows ANZCOR and ILCOR guidelines and is taught by experienced clinical educators. Certification requires a theory exam, demonstration of BLS, and participation in team-based simulations.

The pre-program learning is self-directed online learning and is designed to develop an understanding of the principles of resuscitation science, reinforce current resuscitation guidelines (BLS and PALS), update new recommendations and evidence.
Learning objectives

LO.1 Describe how to recognise the seriously ill child

LO.2 Demonstrate a structured approach to the assessment of the seriously ill child

LO.3 Implement a structured approach to resuscitation and treatment of a child experiencing clinical deterioration and cardiorespiratory arrest.

LO.4 Demonstrate how to assess an unresponsive child or infant and perform basic life support

LO.5Demonstrate how to assess an unresponsive child or infant and perform basic life support

LO.6 Demonstrate advanced airway management for an infant or child based on age.

LO.7 Determine, prepare and administer the appropriate resuscitation medication dosages.

LO.8 Describe equipment and procedure for intraosseous cannulation.

LO.9 Implement safe use of a manual defibrillator during simulation-based scenarios.

LO.10 Demonstrate resuscitation team leader skills during a simulated scenario.

LO.11 Outline post resuscitation care following an ABCDE approach.


Assessment information
  • Knowledge is reinforced throughout the eLearning modules  

  • Formal knowledge assessment via a 40-question multiple-choice examination  

  • Minimum pass mark: 80%  

  • MCQ assessment aligns directly with content delivered in the eLearning modules  

  All practical assessments are conducted through simulation.

Additional information

This half day program provides a rapid pace to update resuscitation skills in a supportive environment.

It's ideal if you frequently attend resuscitation events and have current PALS certification. This course is not suitable for novice clinicians or those who have not completed PALS training in the last 18 months.
