ADI - Tuberculosis in Context: Papua New Guinea

This course was developed by Australian Doctors International (ADI) in partnership with ACRRM.  It aims to improve your understanding of tuberculosis and to provide insights into identifying, diagnosing and managing tuberculosis in Papua New Guinea, based on the experiences of volunteer doctors and their in-country Papua New Guinean partners.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Outline the history and prevalence of tuberculosis
  • Describe the aetiology and pathogenesis of tuberculosis
  • List the risk factors and signs and symptoms of tuberculosis
  • Outline different classification systems of tuberculosis
  • Differentiate between latent and active tuberculosis, and list tuberculosis investigations
  • Explain treatment and prevention approaches including directly observed treatment, short-course
