Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the principles of good clinical practice
  • Ability to apply the principles and responsibilities of doctors to clinical situations
  • Describe unique characteristics of rural general practice
  • Identify the key factors in the decision to consult a particular doctor
  • Identify the barriers to adopting evidence-based practice within the clinic
  • Understand the principles of confidentiality and the difference to those situations where patient information can be disclosed
  • Understand the professional, personal and social demands placed on the rural doctor
  • Understand the particular significance of confidentiality and privacy within small communities
  • Define cultural safety and its importance within rural practice
  • Describe indicators of quality health care and how they differ for patients and clinicians
