Foundations of Rural Generalist Supervision: Supervision Placement

This module looks at the tasks required at the beginning of a supervised doctor’s placement in the practice and explains why they are so important to a successful term. Links to several useful tools and resources are included.

Learning objectives

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Take the necessary steps to develop a supportive relationship with the supervised doctor
  • Plan for and organise the practice to optimise the learning experience for the supervised doctor
  • Conduct a comprehensive orientation of the new supervised doctor to the hospital, practice and the community
  • Help a supervised doctor identify, clarify and take action on learning needs
  • Assess the level of supervision required by the supervised doctor
