Dental Emergencies

Dental education is an often-neglected area in medical curricula giving the impression that the mouth is a no-go zone for most physicians, despite it being just another part of the body. This module with its supporting units attempts to demystify the mouth allowing physicians to confidently describe, document and manage commonly presenting dental emergencies using evidence-based information.

  • Intra-oral Haemorrhage Control
  • Prevalence Assessment & Classification of Traumatic Dental Injuries
  • Dental Trauma Management
  • Local Anaesthetic Techniques

Learning objectives

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the main concepts and principles of tooth structure
  • Be able to describe and record both the primary and secondary dentition using appropriate nomenclature
  • Undertake initial assessment and triage patients with traumatic dental injuries
  • Be aware of what kind of dental trauma can be treated by a Rural Generalist
  • Gain an understanding of dental emergency procedures
