Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

Increased Knowledge and Understanding
Gain comprehensive knowledge of alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs, including their effects, related health conditions, and the appropriate responses to presenting patients with substance use disorders.

Assessment and Management of Substance Use Disorders
Be able to effectively assess, manage, and provide acute emergency care for patients with substance use disorders, including alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, cannabis, methamphetamine, nicotine, and other stimulants.

Harm Reduction and Withdrawal Management
Recognise the harms associated with the use of various substances and confidently apply harm reduction strategies, withdrawal management, and specialist care when needed.

Evidence-Based Treatment Planning
Apply evidence-based practices for early identification, ongoing treatment, and management of substance use disorders, including nicotine, ensuring a tailored approach to each patient’s needs.
