The
purpose of this course is to provide learners with introductory knowledge and
insight to develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Peoples’ beliefs, values, histories, cultures and experiences pre-colonisation
to the present.
You will also develop an understanding of ACRRM's approach
to improving cultural awareness and cultural safety and be given the opportunity
to develop your own personal plan to make meaningful difference in your
community.
On completion of this module,
you will be able to:
Describe the difference
between cultural awareness and cultural safety, and how each are part of a
process of lifelong learning.
Describe and reflect upon the diversity, resilience and
strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities and
cultures from pre-colonisation to the present.
Reflect upon and describe your own awareness of
Australia’s history from pre-colonisation to the present. Explore how one’s
own culture influences interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Peoples, colleagues, patients, and communities.
Explain basic actions and leadership skills that can help
you build a culturally safe and respectful workplace and to respond to
instances of identified racism or
inequity.
