ACRRM Cultural Safety

The purpose of this course is to provide learners with introductory knowledge and insight to develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ beliefs, values, histories, cultures and experiences pre-colonisation to the present.

You will also develop an understanding of ACRRM's approach to improving cultural awareness and cultural safety and be given the opportunity to develop your own personal plan to make meaningful difference in your community.

On completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between cultural awareness and cultural safety, and how each are part of a process of lifelong learning.
  • Describe and reflect upon the diversity, resilience and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities and cultures from pre-colonisation to the present.
  • Reflect upon and describe your own awareness of Australia’s history from pre-colonisation to the present. Explore how one’s own culture influences interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, colleagues, patients, and communities.
