This course is designed to help you become a more confident, effective, and reflective Rural Generalist. You will further develop your skills to connect with patients, navigate challenging conversations, and make informed decisions in consultations. By focusing on practical approaches and self-awareness, you’ll gain the confidence to handle the complexities of everyday practice. By the end of the course, you will feel better equipped to ensure your patients feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their care.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognise clear and empathetic communication strategies to effectively build rapport, gather essential information, and clearly explain diagnoses and treatment plans in ways easily understood by patients.
  • Evaluate the impact of personal attitudes, biases, and mental approaches on clinical judgment and consultation outcomes through self-reflective practice.
  • Implement targeted strategies to effectively manage challenging patient encounters and optimise time management within consultations.
