This educational event aims to address critical gaps in the management of persistent and moderate-severe allergic rhinitis in general practice. The session will highlight several unmet needs, including sub-optimal management due to patients self-diagnosing and managing their symptoms, non-compliance with prescribed treatments, and delayed initiation of therapy, particularly during hayfever season. Additionally, the event will explore the interplay between allergic rhinitis and asthma, emphasising the need for better integrated management under the United Airways Disease concept. The often-overlooked impact of ocular symptoms on quality of life will also be discussed. Case-based discussions will focus on improving referral for immunotherapy and encouraging routine reassessment and follow-up by GPs after initial consultations, aiming to foster better long-term patient outcomes. The program will combine a 30-minute presentation with a 30-minute interactive case discussion to ensure practical application of best practice principles in a follow-up patient review process. This course comprises of 1 hour for the webinar masterclass,2 hours of material review and self reflection and five hours of mini audit patient review.

Despite the implementation of Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) being mandatory for more than two years in some Australian jurisdictions, many Australian general practitioners (GPs) remain unaware of their legal obligations . This knowledge gap puts both doctors and patients at risk, as GPs may unintentionally prescribe controlled substances without adhering to regulations. By using RTPM, GPs can identify patients who may be at risk of harm due to dependence or misuse of controlled medicines and those engaging in ‘prescription shopping’. The system also helps regulators detect non-compliant prescribing practices.

Blood cancers are a collection of over 120 rare or uncommon cancers which are non-hereditary, spontaneous, non screenable and with diffuse and ambiguous symptomatology, so traditional population screening modalities do not apply. Blood cancer outcomes for rural and remote Australians are significantly worse than for those in metropolitan centres. People living in regional areas are 17 times more likely to report geographical and financial barriers to care than people living in metropolitan areas. Modelling data suggests that removing blood cancer care variations between metropolitan and regional areas, could improve survival outcomes by approximately 5% of expected mortality to 2035 (saving more than 7,000 deaths over the 2022-2035 horizon). By having “more trained eyes on the patient” primary healthcare staff will feel empowered directing patients to GPs when symptoms do not respond in the ‘normal’ way to treatment. Patients are empowered with 2-3 questions to ask the GP (which do not mention Blood Cancer) that will prompt the GP to consider and rule out Blood Cancer. Therefore, proposed learning activity will ensure timely diagnosis of blood cancer and improve blood cancer survival outcomes.
