General Practice plays a crucial role in providing care for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at all stages and levels of severity. General Practitioners (GPs) reach 8 out of 10 people each year and are increasingly involved in managing lifestyle risk factors that contribute to the development and progression of COPD. This course provides foundational knowledge on the physiology of the respiratory system and the pathophysiology of COPD, equipping GPs with the essential skills to diagnose, treat, and manage this chronic disease effectively. By understanding the underlying mechanisms and clinical manifestations of COPD, GPs can offer comprehensive care.

REST covers many of the common emergencies that are likely to present in the pre-hospital, small rural hospital and private rural practice environment. The aim of this course is to teach a structured approach to the initial resuscitation and stabilisation of patients presenting with life-threatening conditions and to enhance the practical skills required for managing emergencies in the rural context. The Course is facilitated by Rural Generalists with experience in Emergency Medicine, for Rural Generalists. Participants complete approximately 12 hours of self-directed online learning, followed by two hands-on workshop days. You’ll leave with skills in basic life support, along with more advanced skills and techniques to assist with managing life-threatening injuries and conditions.

Join Paediatrician Dr Dildeepa Naveen for a discussion about Abdominal Pain in Children. This session will provide GPs with a deeper understanding of abdominal pain in children, offering practical tools for assessment and management of acute and chronic issues. Dr Naveen will discuss multidisciplinary approaches to care and referral pathways. Bring your questions and cases, invite your medical colleagues and enjoy this interactive session. All local GPs, RGs, registrars, medical practitioners in hospitals, interns and medical students are welcome. Dr Naveen gained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree and Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology from Kerala, India, before moving to Australia in 2005 where she attained a Diploma in Child Health and completed FRACP qualification . She has worked within the Adelaide Paediatric Network including Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Lyell McEwin Hospital, Port Augusta Hospital Services as a trainee for over 7 years, she worked as consultant in Child Development Unit, WCH and is an affiliate lecturer in University of Adelaide with a special interest in medical education and evidence based medicine.Currently she consults at Adelaide Paediatrics. She has an interest in managing general paediatric complaints such as asthma, constipation, enuresis, eczema, sleep problems, feeding and growth issues to developmental and behavioural concerns including Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD.
