There are a wide range of conditions unique to the biology of IAFABP.These conditions are common, and in some cases inevitable, and can have a severe impact on the mental and physical health and wellbeing of those they affect, leading to poorer health outcomes and lower quality of life overall. And yet, despite their prevalence, there tends to be a distinct lack of research and understanding of the aetiology and pathophysiology of these conditions. This in turn may impact the range of treatment options and efficacy. For many, conventional treatment options are not sufficient to manage their condition or its symptoms. And many conventional treatment options pose increased risks of varying severity, from discomfort through to physiological impacts that could cause lasting physical and mental impacts, and even raise the risk of mortality.Recently, medical cannabis is becoming a popular treatment option for many, with an increasing body of research endorsing its benefits for treating symptomatology of various conditions, including those that affect IAFABP.

Clinical practice relating to individuals approaching the end of life necessarily involves decision-making and interaction with the law. For example, it is estimated that medical decisions to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment precede almost 30% of all Australian deaths, or approximately 50,000 deaths annually. When will this kind of decision be lawful, and when will it not? Will this depend on whether the person has capacity? If so, what is the legal test to determine this? These are just some examples of how law intersects with medical practice. In this Module you will explore what legal issues can arise in medical practice and what role law plays in end of life care. It also outlines how knowing these laws can support your practice. This Module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
