Resuscitation Australia (RA) course was developed to equip healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors, specialists, paramedics, and first responders) with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively recognise, assess, and manage critically ill patients and lead cardiac arrest situations until advanced support arrives. RA's ALS1 courseis a mixed-mode blended learning course comprising mandatory pre-course eLearning as well as attendance at the face-to-face training day. Assessment is formative.RA's ALS1 coursecomplies with Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) Guidelines and National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and is informed by European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Guidelines on Education for Resuscitation 2025, including using online learning modalities to provide flexibility in time and location for learners and to promote asynchronous learning.

This eight day intensive and practical residential course is designed primarily for health care professionals and experienced outdoor professionals to manage a wide range of injuries and illnesses in outdoor settings. The course teaches related field skills and provides both theoretical and practical coverage of the following topics: pre-expedition planning and medical kits, wilderness emergency medical response, environmental medicine (cold injury, high altitude medicine and avalanche burial and rescue), search and rescue, steep terrain rescue, use of stretchers and splints, leadership and teamwork, remote area communications, navigation.

Participants will have the opportunity to improve their cardiac point-of-care ultrasound skills and have hands-on practice on a variety of patients. Experienced cardiac sonographers will provide specialist demonstration and guidance of this complex skill. Teaching throughout focusses on application to common critical care scenarios culminating with a cardiologist led discussion on integration into clinical practice on the Sunday morning. The workshop will have limited numbers to ensure participants gain adequate scanning practice time (maximum of 3 students per machine and tutor). Participant collaboration and discussion is highly encouraged. Prior to commencement of the workshop, participants are required to complete pre-reading and a short pre-workshop quiz. Participants will complete a post-workshop quiz to obtain their CPD certificate. ASUM provides 13 myASUM CPD points for the duration of the course and the workshop meets requirements for the Rapid Cardiac Echocardiography CCPU Unit.

The ACRRM NSW/ACT regional team will be delivering face-to-face supervisor education to the Hunter and New England region in Newcastle. The workshop will take place on Saturday 25 July 2026, 10:00am - 1:30pm [AEST] with an optional networking lunch to follow. Catering will be provided by the College. This workshop provides a valuable opportunity to build and refresh your supervision knowledge, engage with the NSW/ACT ACRRM team, and connect with fellow local accredited supervisors. Topics will include: Preparing registrars for ACRRM assessments When things go wrong: scenario-based challenging situations for the registrar–supervisor–practice In-practice teaching: formal and informal approaches (including the interface between the Medical Educator and supervisor) Matching teaching and learning styles CPD hours will be claimable for attendance.
