The Systematic Approach to Investigating Symptoms of Lung Cancer Health Professional Training will support GPs in their application of Cancer Australia's ISLC Guide in practice. The training enables virtual application of the Guide in a scenario-based setting. Following a robust introduction to the Guide, its history and supporting evidence, learners will be introduced to four simulated case studies. As the learner meets each patient, they will discuss their symptoms, medical and social histories, then determine any signs of lung cancer through simulated physical examinations. Evidence gathered from each consultation will inform learners' next steps in applying the guide to either a) seek further information from the patient b) refer for investigations or c) refer to a lung cancer specialist and MDT or an Emergency Department.

“Domestic violence” also known as “Intimate Partner Violence”, refers to any behaviour by an intimate partner (or ex-partner) that causes physical, sexual or psychological harm, including acts of physical violence, sexual coercion, psychological abuse and controlling behaviours.(1) It is a pattern of behaviour where one partner is usually exerting power and control over the other partner over time. “Family violence” refers to violence between any members of a family. This module will focus on identifying people who have used domestic and family violence.Addressing the need to train and support GPs and other primary care providers to do this work well, the Safer Families Centre (University of Melbourne) secured a grant from the Australian Government Department of Health to develop and deliver The Readiness Program of domestic and family violence training to general practices across Australia 2021-2024 including workshops such as this one. When we asked GPs about their ongoing needs for training there were two main areas: how to work with perpetrators and how to address child abuse. This introductory workshop is for GPs and other primary care providers and aims to enhance skills and confidence in how to identify when violence is occurring and safely and sensitively engage with people who use violence to encourage appropriate help-seeking.
