Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur suddenly and without warning. GPs play a central role in primary care and are often the first point of contact for patients with allergies. Proper education equips GPs with the skills to recognize and manage anaphylaxis promptly, ensuring patient safety. GPs can educate their patients about anaphylaxis triggers, risk factors, and the importance of carrying adrenaline auto-injectors. Educated GPs can provide better guidance to patients, improving their ability to manage their allergies. Anaphylaxis education is an integral part of CPD, ensuring that GPs stay updated with the latest knowledge and skills in managing this critical condition.

GPs are often the first health professional to detect a patient’s skin cancer. Early detection, diagnosis and treatment of melanoma are associated with a greater chance of survival, however, there are barriers to performing a skin check that need to be overcome. This practical interactive learning module will provide GPs with time-efficient strategies to conduct skin checks for individuals at highest risk and optimise patient health benefits for the consultation time investment. It will also help GPs maximise opportunities within the current healthcare system, create practice-based improvements to clinical protocols to optimise identification of high-risk individuals, and explore the use of additional resources to help with ongoing monitoring of skin health more efficiently.

While cervical lymphadenopathy in adults is relatively common, any patient presenting with a persistent neck lump should be considered to have cancer until proven otherwise. So says Dr Julia Crawford, who in this presentation will also discuss other red flags to look out for when assessing a patient presenting with a head or neck lump. She will outline the most appropriate investigations of these lumps — whether they are lymph nodes, salivary gland masses, or thyroid nodules.
