Maternal sepsis accounts for a significant portion of maternal morbidity in Australia, second only to cardiovascular disease. With an incidence rate of around 1-2 cases/1000 deliveries and the 2nd highest cause for all maternal deaths, First Nations women and those living in rural and remote areas face higher risks due to disparities in healthcare access with women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds more susceptible due to barriers in accessing timely and adequate prenatal care. This special lunchtime webinar will utilise case-study examples including a focus on our most vulnerable patients, looking at: The risks for maternal sepsis, Prompt identification and diagnosis, Antibiotic therapy andamp; Supportive care. It will enable GPs to gain a better understanding of the risk factors of maternal sepsis, improve early recognition and management to prevent maternal morbidity andamp; mortality.

This activity is designed for GPs involved in skin cancer care, particularly those with an interest in advanced dermoscopy. GPs frequently encounter pigmented and non-pigmented lesions that are diagnostically challenging. Early and accurate identification of high-risk melanoma subtypes—including Spitz naevus, nodular, desmoplastic, amelanotic, scalp, lentigo maligna, mucosal, and acral melanomas—is critical to improving patient outcomes and reducing morbidity. Participants will develop skills to differentiate these lesions from mimickers using dermoscopy, histopathology and adjunctive tools, select appropriate biopsy and management strategies, and apply evidence-based guidelines to improve patient outcomes. The workshop also emphasises effective communication of diagnostic uncertainty and management plans in general practice.
