Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a leading cause of stroke in Australia, significantly increasing morbidity and mortality, particularly in high-risk populations. Despite advancements in screening and anticoagulation therapy, challenges remain in identifying at-risk patients, initiating and monitoring direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), and ensuring long-term adherence to treatment and lifestyle modifications. This interactive program provides GPs with practical, evidence-based strategies to enhance AF detection, assess stroke and bleeding risks, and optimise anticoagulation management. Through case-based discussions, participants will gain the skills to improve screening, support shared decision-making, and reduce AF-related complications in primary care.

Approximately 4% of notifications of child abuse to child protection services in Australia are made by medical practitioners, but under reporting has been identified in a study reviewing patients who presented with fractures to an emergency department with many cases of child harm being missed . One reason attributed to this under-reporting includes concerns about making a notification due to patient confidentiality, breakdown in clinician/patient relationships, implications if clinicians “got it wrong”, notification worsening the situation. This topic can be quite confrontational and confusing, but an important area for us all to have a good understanding of our responsibilities. This includes the skills to assess and manage these presentations safely to provide appropriate support and comfort and assist in protecting the child as well as reporting without fear of criticism or reprisal.

Presented by Dr Sam Manger and Sarah Watson in partnership with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, this webinar explores how lifestyle medicine can be integrated into general practice to support veteran health and wellbeing. Veterans commonly present with clusters of chronic conditions shaped by service demands, loss of routine after discharge, and military culture. Standard lifestyle advice may be less effective without adaptation to these factors. This session supports GPs to better understand these influences and apply lifestyle strategies that are realistic, veteran‑centred, and clinically feasible.Participants will gain practical skills in applying the pillars of lifestyle medicine using case‑based examples, learn how to prioritise achievable behaviour change in complex patients, and identify opportunities to align care with DVA‑funded services. The webinar aims to improve GP confidence, engagement strategies, and sustainable lifestyle care for veterans in everyday practice.

In 2016, approximately 200,000 Australian adults reported being sexually assaulted in the 12 month period. Of the approximate fifty percent of women who sought advice or support following sexual assault, four in ten did so from a general practitioner (GP) or other health care provider.GPs are well placed to identify, support, treat and refer victims of sexual violence. This unit will provide practitioners with an understanding of how to recognise, respond to and refer patients who are victims of sexual violence, including disclosures of sexual violence; ethical, medical and forensic considerations; and immediate and long-term referrals to assist in recovery. Core to this content is an exploration of key communication skills, trauma-informed and patient-centred responses. This unit references the World Health Organizations LIVES Framework for responding to and caring for individuals subject to sexual violence. This unit is focused on the patient consultation.
