This clinical audit is designed for medical practitioners to build on the knowledge gained from previous studies of psoriasis in general dermatology. The audit provides the opportunity to review and analyse previous clinical management of patient cases with psoriasis, develop a plan to educate and increase skills and knowledge in this area and implement this plan. Participants will apply their dermatology learning to identify and treat psoriasis, demonstrating increased skills and knowledge in their management of patient cases. The audit includes a critical case analysis of each case. This stage will be peer reviewed. This audit together with the Complex Certificate of General Dermatology components combine to be the HealthCert Professional Diploma of General Dermatology.

The course begins with identifying the different categories and causes of depression across genders and age groups. The risk factors of depression including particular ‘at risk’ groups are outlined. The course then focuses on diagnosing depression using the Mental State Examination and DSM 5 including some differentials diagnoses. Options for the treatment of depression are detailed including lifestyle changes, nutrition, psychological approach and medications. Approaches to treat different groups of people with depression including adolescents and young people, in pregnancy and breastfeeding, perinatal, perimenopause, men with proven low testosterone and terminal illness patients are outlined. When to refer patients to a psychiatrist is discussed. The course concludes with case studies to reinforce learning. This course may be studied separately or as a component of the Professional Certificate of Mental Health.

The course identifies the different types of anxiety disorders and the underlying cognitions. A general approach including epidemiology, considerations for assessment, secondary causes, investigations, diagnosis, treatment, and management of anxiety are discussed. The course then focuses on generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder (SAD). The DSM-V diagnostic criteria, functional consequences, epidemiology including differential diagnosis, treatment, psychological interventions, and pharmacotherapy are covered in detail. A case study for each of these disorders reinforces learning. The course concludes with information on DSM V for agoraphobia, specific phobia, separation anxiety, selective mutism, substance/medication induced anxiety disorder and anxiety disorder due to another medical condition. The history, epidemiology and aetiology of bipolar disorder are discussed. Information and tools to classify bipolar disorder include prodromal symptoms, clinical features of mania, hypomania, depressive episode, mixed episode, cyclothymic disorder and psychotic symptoms. Screening instruments include Mental State Examination, Bipolar Depression Rating Scale, Mood Disorder Questionnaire and Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale. Content includes differential diagnoses and challenges in diagnosing bipolar disorder in children and adolescents. The principles of management and case studies in Hypo/mania, depressive episode and mixed state are included. Treatment options include pharmacotherapy approach and adverse effects, diet and supplements, and patient support from multidisciplinary teams, partner, friends and family. Arthritis is an umbrella term for over 100 diseases and conditions affecting the bones, muscles, and joints. More than 30 of these are inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The steps of early assessment and diagnosis are outlined commencing with symptoms, patient history and test options. This information is supported by two clinical cases. The first case considers septic arthritis, and the second case discusses polymyalgia rheumatica. Inflammatory arthritis aetiologies are outlined before discussing gout and pseudogout in detail.The course then considers rheumatoid arthritis covering the facts, aetiology, history, stages, tests, clinical features and extra-articular manifestations. A case study is included. Pharmacotherapy, DMARDS, non-pharmacological options and complications are outlined. Information is provided on Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and pregnancy, and RA and vaccination.Unit five discusses ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis in detail including aetiology, symptoms, investigations, tests to assist with diagnosis, differential diagnoses and management information.

The aim of this course is to consider patients who have symptoms where it is difficult to make a firm diagnosis, but who still need care, support and in some instances, symptomatic treatment. Content commences with the challenges facing a practitioner when dealing with these patients. These patient presentations are common and symptoms are variable. Information is provided in how to manage these patients including cultural factors, common symptoms, syndromes, the patient perspective and diagnoses. Information on electromagnetic hypersensitivity is detailed.A patient centred approach aims to combine evidence-based diagnosis and treatment with what patients experience. Six components of patient centred care are outlined. Treatment should aim to establish an effective physician-patient relationship, help develop strategies for coping and encourage patients to lead a normal work/social life. History, examinations, investigations and self-help strategies are discussed. Unit five discusses three patient cases.
