Participants are guided through how a GP can manage each of the four patient cases. The first condition is tobacco use in Australia and the burden of tobacco related diseases. The case is about the challenges of quitting smoking and explores the option of prescribing vaping as a substitute, supported by studies and regulations. The second case explores the gout condition. Statistics and risk factors are discussed, followed by a case study. History, medications. investigations, differential diagnoses, treatment and management options are outlined. The third case focuses on peripheral vascular disease. History gathering, medications, examinations, investigations, diagnostic tests and management options are discussed including surgical referral. The fourth case focuses on a 65-year-old patient with suspected congestive cardiac failure. The approach and suggested treatment, management and prevention options are included.

Nutrient reference values and the link to food choices and chronic disease is highlighted. Recommended servings are listed for each of the five major food groups. The module compares the Australian guide with international dietary guidelines. A case study is presented examining patient food consumption and suggests better food choices to meet the patient’s goals. References and guides are presented throughout the course.

This musculoskeletal course focuses on the steps used to initiate a diagnosis in patients with acutely painful joints and briefly introduces the causes and complications of polyarthritis. It outlines the differential diagnosis based on history taking, examinations and investigations. The course explains the epidemiology, aetiology, pathophysiology, natural history and diagnostic criteria of rheumatoid arthritis. The course concludes with the examination, investigations, diagnosis, and management specific to rheumatoid arthritis. Various images and statistics are used throughout the module to assist with learning.

This musculoskeletal course focuses on the initial diagnosis and GP management of sport-related neck injuries. It outlines the neck anatomy and common causes of neck injuries in sport. The course then outlines the step-by-step diagnostic process to exclude the possibility of an unstable cervical spine injury that could lead to spinal cord compression and neurological compromise. This involves a combination of history taking, physical findings and, when required, imaging studies. Treatment and management of neck injuries in emergency and uncomplicated situations are discussed. The course concludes with the management of neck injuries in special situations including neck injuries in children, arthritic spine, aging spine and soft tissue injuries with blunt injuries.
