Despite significant advancements in prevention and treatment, cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. However, new evidence is re-shaping the landscape of cardiovascular care. From the emergence of new lipid biomarkers in the prediction and management of CVD risk, to the expanding role of transaortic aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for aortic stenosis and innovative pharmacological strategies in heart failure — clinical practice is rapidly evolving. “What's hot in cardiology” will unpack these developments, providing practical guidance and innovative strategies to enhance cardiovascular risk factor management in the primary healthcare setting.

Chest pain is a common, high-risk presentation in general practice. The 2025 Australian ACS guideline introduces updates on triage, early ECG, risk tools, and referral thresholds, yet many GPs have limited recent ECG training and uncertainty in distinguishing STEMI from mimics or managing non-diagnostic tracings. These gaps, compounded by time pressure and limited access to serial ECGs/troponins in primary care, especially rural settings, risk delayed STEMI recognition, unsafe reassurance, and medico-legal consequences.

Subfertility affects up to 1 in 6 couples, and GPs are often the first point of contact. Many feel uncertain about early assessment, investigations, and patient guidance, leading to inconsistent advice or unnecessary tests. This webinar equips GPs with practical, evidence-based strategies to confidently manage early fertility consultations. Participants will learn how to provide clear guidance on ovulation, lifestyle, supplementation, and environmental factors, identify which investigations are most valuable, and know when to refer. Case-focused and GP-specific, the session delivers actionable tools to optimise patient care and streamline the subfertility pathway.

Chronic pain is one of the most frequent and complex presentations in general practice, often interwoven with mood, anxiety, and sleep symptoms. This course, presented by psychiatrist Dr Khaldoon Alsaee, provides GPs with a clear understanding of the neurobiological and psychosocial mechanisms that sustain chronic pain beyond tissue injury. Drawing on contemporary neuroscience, the program explains how sensitisation, cortical reorganisation, and impaired descending inhibition contribute to the persistence of pain and its overlap with mental health conditions. Participants gain insight into how emotional and cognitive processes shape pain perception and treatment response. The course integrates psychiatry and pain medicine to equip GPs with practical tools for improving patient communication, validating lived experiences, and applying biopsychosocial strategies in chronic pain management.Through interactive self-assessment and reflection activities, participants evaluate their own clinical approach, identify learning needs, and plan evidence-based improvements in practice. This activity supports GPs in delivering more informed, compassionate, and effective care for patients living with chronic pain in primary care settings.

This webinar will provide General Practitioners with a practical understanding of the emerging role of pharmacogenomics (PGx) in clinical practice. Associate Professor Kym Mina, a Genetic Pathologist, will introduce the fundamentals of PGx - what it is, how it works, the supporting science, and an overview of current Australian and international clinical guidelines. GP Dr Stuart Arbuckle will then present two clinical case studies demonstrating the practical application of PGx in mental health. The goal is to improve patient outcomes, enhance compliance, and reduce adverse effects. The webinar will conclude with an interactive Qandamp;A panel session, offering attendees a chance to engage in a clinical discussion and have their specific questions answered. The session will equip attendees with the knowledge to begin incorporating PGx testing into their everyday practice to offer a more personalised approach to medicine.

Designed by Rural Generalists, the Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) course was created to meet the needs of rural doctors to support and enable them to exceed the standards set by the Australian Resuscitation Council. This two-day course provides you with the knowledge and skills to demonstrate your competency and improve your confidence in leading and managing Advanced Life Support presentations in rural clinical settings. The first component of the course is self-directed online learning and is designed to refresh and reinforce ALS guidelines, update new recommendations and evidence, and review the pharmacology and relevant pathophysiology components required to succeed in the course. The online modules will take approximately one day to complete. The second part of the course is delivered face-to-face. This training focuses on reinforcing your experience and knowledge by applying the online learning content and contextualising it to the rural environment. Delivered in a peer-to-peer learning environment, the one-day face-to-face training allows you to work with facilitators and other participants on a variety of real-world scenarios to demonstrate competency.
