This 90 minute online masterclass, The Heart of GDMT Optimisation: Hospitals andamp; Heart Failure, will explore the role of hospitals and multidisciplinary teams in optimising guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for patients admitted to hospital. Building on findings from a new Australian study, the program brings together leading cardiologists, cardiac nursing teams, pharmacists and general practitioners to provide evidence-based insights into how GDMT can be intensified and embedded within hospital settings to enhance post-discharge GDMT alignment in primary care settings. Key themes include identifying barriers and enablers to GDMT optimisation during admissions, practical strategies for integrating GDMT assessment into hospital workflows, and the role of hospital-based programs in reducing readmissions and improving patient outcomes. Through expert presentations and interactive discussion, participants will reflect on how hospitals can move beyond acute stabilisation to actively contribute to long-term HF management, particularly for patients under general medical teams. The faculty comprises Dr Sriram Rao, Prof Andrea Driscoll, Prof Andrew Sindone, Hannah Doody, and Prof John Atherton.

Mastering MAFLD: Identifying, Assessing and Acting in Primary Care is a 90-minute online masterclass equipping general practitioners and practice teams to improve early detection, risk stratification, and ongoing management of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). With MAFLD now the most common liver condition in Australia and a major driver of cardiometabolic disease, this program offers clear guidance on who to screen, how to assess severity using tools like FIB-4, and when to refer or escalate care. The session features expert faculty across hepatology, general practice, and metabolic health, with case-based discussions, team-based workflows, and practical implementation strategies. It addresses MAFLD’s connections to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease, and emphasises structured follow-up within the context of chronic disease management. Participants will undertake structured post-event reflection and implement practice-based patient reviews. The goal is to strengthen systematised metabolic care in general practice and reduce long-term liver and cardiometabolic complications through earlier intervention and coordinated follow-up.
