Space flight is not without it hazards, and fundamentally the issues encounter over 70 years ago, have not been resolved. Microgravity, gravity designed as not of the 9.8m2g of Earth has an unhealthy affect on the human body and indeed all biological cellular structures from Earth. In the human this can affect all major organ systems, as well as the muscular-skeletal systems, immune and neurological system. Data collected for the most part has been from male astronauts, and limited knowledge has been gained concerning female humans in space, their reproductive potential and what challenges will occur when colonisation occurs in lower than Earth gravity.

This course focuses on the application of dermoscopy for suspicious skin lesions. Participants will learn about the dermoscopic clues used to identify melanomas that are difficult to diagnose clinically because of their morphology. It highlights the use of dermoscopy to improve the pattern recognition of various types of melanomas including nodular, desmoplastic, amelanotic, epidermotropic metastatic, nevoid, verrucous and melanomas on sun-damaged skin. The dermoscopic images, features and methods to safely deal with these melanomas are discussed in detail throughout this course.

This course focuses on the application of dermoscopy for suspicious skin lesions. Participants will learn about the significance of integrating dermoscopy to assist in identifying inflammatory diseases. Common dermatological conditions including psoriasis, dermatitis, lichen planus, pityriasis rosacea, acne, dermatitis, lupus, fungoides, mites, scabies, dermatoses, lichen sclerosus and vitiligo are discussed and supported by dermoscopic imaging, charts and research papers. The parameters and criteria such as vessels morphology, vessel distribution, scale colour, scale distribution, follicular disturbances and specific clues that need to be evaluated before reaching a diagnosis are described. Dermoscopic images are used throughout the presentation to discuss these parameters and to assist in differentiating between inflammatory and infectious skin diseases.

This outcome improvement activity on difficult to diagnose melanomas enables doctors to review and enhance their current practice for patients who may benefit from this condition. The activity will guide you to compare and measure your management of three patient cases prior to, and after applying evidence-based guidelines to patient cases. Guides, tools and templates are provided as you work through this activity. At the completion of this activity, you are asked to reflect and measure your improved patient management and outline systemic changes you may have implemented into your clinical practice.

This course commences with listing the contraindications for the use of lasers. The premise of using lasers is knowing that laser technology and selection are related to wavelength, pulse duration, fluence and spot size. Various laser options including modes of operation assist in determining what lasers could be used for what conditions. The use of lasers for treating superficial and deeper vessels is included. Congenital vascular conditions including port wine stain, haemangiomas and lymphangiomas are described. The course then moves to treating acquired vascular conditions such as cherry angiomas, spider naevi, venous lake, telangiectasia, rosacea, poikiloderma of civatte and peri-orbital vessels.
