General Practitioners (GPs) play a central role in prescribing and managing medications for people living with dementia. Through a person-centred approach, GPs are responsible for initiating, adjusting, and discontinuing medicines as appropriate. Collaboration with pharmacists and other health professionals is essential to ensure safe deprescribing practices and the quality use of medicines. Pharmacists bring expertise in medication reviews and deprescribing strategies, working closely with GPs to optimise medicine use and reduce medication burden. Together, they help prevent medication-related problems—up to 50% of which are considered avoidable—by implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to individual needs. The broader interdisciplinary team, including nurses, allied health practitioners, and aged care staff, provides valuable insights and supports non-pharmacological interventions. This collaborative approach ensures holistic care, improving health outcomes and quality of life for people living with dementia, particularly in rural and regional settings where access to timely healthcare can be challenging.

Depression andamp; Anxiety in Primary Care is a 90-minute online masterclass designed to support general practitioners in the contemporary management of depression and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) in community practice.Depression and anxiety are among the most common and disabling conditions seen in primary care, with management often complicated by comorbidity, partial or inadequate treatment response, treatment intolerance, and diverse patient presentations across different life stages. This educational activity provides a practical, evidence-informed update on emerging Australian insights into the burden and impact of depression and GAD, alongside contemporary evidence guiding treatment selection, sequencing, and optimisation. Through expert-led discussion and real-world case exploration, the session focuses on translating evidence into confident clinical decision-making that supports functional recovery and improved patient outcomes. The program addresses common challenges in everyday practice, including recognising incomplete response, monitoring treatment effectiveness and adverse effects, and adapting management strategies for diverse patient contexts, including women across key life stages and older adults with medical comorbidities. Structured post-work activities support reflection and application of learnings to real-world patient care in alignment with CPD requirements.
