This two-hour, interactive specialist masterclass critically examines the evolving role of ejection fraction (EF) in heart failure diagnosis, classification, and treatment. Anchored by an international and Australian faculty including Prof Stefan Anker, Prof John Atherton, Dr Fiona Foo, Prof Tom Marwick and Dr Shane Nanayakkara, the session explores new data challenging the primacy of EF in guiding therapy. The masterclass unpacks the limitations of EF-based classification and highlights alternative frameworks based on patient phenotype, pathophysiology, and comorbid drivers including metabolic disease, inflammation, and microvascular dysfunction. It provides clinicians with practical insights into the use of SGLT2 inhibitors across the EF spectrum and introduces tools for improved risk stratification and treatment selection using biomarkers and imaging. The session includes structured case-based discussion, live panel commentary, and written Qandamp;A, followed by post-event self-reflection and outcome-focused clinical review.
