Pain and GDMT: Bridging Principles and PracticeThis continuing professional development (CPD) programme aims to enhance the understanding and application of guidelines-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in pain management for primary care providers. It addresses the need for GPs to integrate evidence-based guidelines into daily practice to improve patient outcomes. The course focuses on the practical application of GDMT principles to manage pain through multimodal care. Participants will learn to apply these principles in various clinical scenarios, ensuring optimal care for patients with new, recurrent, and long-term pain. This includes using clinical guidelines for decision-making and implementing multimodal strategies that combine pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Participants will explore the evidence and clinical experience underpinning guidelines, gaining insights into the rationale behind recommended practices. The programme emphasises personalised care, considering patient-specific factors that influence the risk-benefit balance.Challenges of implementing GDMT in primary care include consistent application of guidelines, managing opioid use complexities, and maintaining a patient-centred approach. These are addressed through practical tools and case-based learning, enabling GPs to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.

Paediatric Basic Life Support (PBLS) is the foundational resuscitation training designed to equip healthcare professionals with the cognitive and psychomotor skills required to respond effectively to paediatric cardiac and respiratory deterioration. PBLS focuses on providing timely, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and ensuring airway management in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. These skills are critical in managing paediatric deteriorations, where rapid intervention can dramatically improve survival and outcomes.

People who use domestic violence have an increased risk of alcohol and substance abuse, rates of depression, suicidal thoughts, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, and increased use of health services. The National Plan to end violence against women calls for services to engage with men using violence through perpetrator interventions that hold them to account and support them to change their harmful behaviour GPs are in a unique position to help men who have used domestic violence to identify and reflect on their behaviour causing concern and to support early intervention before violence escalates. Despite this, few GPs receive specific training to support them to work with patients using domestic and family violence. We are trialling a primary care-based intervention to increase GP capacity to work with men using violence, using the I-ENGAGE model and a digital intervention called Better Man. I-ENGAGE is a model for primary health system responses to men using violence developed within the Safer Families Centre of Research Excellence. It is a stepwise approach for GPs to identify and engage with men using violence and to provide them with a range of tools to support behavioral change, from digital interventions to on-referral for specialist support. The Better Man website is an evidence-based digital tool for men using DFV which can be offered by GPs to their patients to build readiness, knowledge and skills for behaviour change.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of anaphylaxis, a rapidly increasing and potentially life-threatening condition. It is structured into five units covering its history, causes, and management. Unit 1 explores its historical background, definition, and common triggers. Unit 2 examines its pathophysiology, risk factors, and onset patterns. Unit 3 focuses on clinical features, diagnosis, and differential diagnoses. Unit 4 reviews treatment, including adrenaline, antihistamines, and first aid, with special considerations for vulnerable groups. Unit 5 addresses post-event management, including referrals, patient education, and allergen avoidance. Case studies offer practical insights into effective management strategies.

This education underscores the vital role that GPs have in managing drowning incidents both in the pre-hospital setting and in prevention strategies. Ensuring the GP is familiar with the latest approaches in drowning management enhances their readiness and improves outcomes for patients in these critical situations. This article provides insights into current protocols, offers practical guidance for immediate response, outlines in hospital management and emphasises preventive measures to reduce the frequency of these tragic events. It aims to ensure GPs can efficiently and appropriately treat and refer patients who drown.
