This online learning module (OLM) is designed for midwives, shared care general practitioners and other relevant medical doctors providing antenatal care throughout NSW. The OLM is comprised of the following three topics: 1. An overview of syphilis 2. Information on testing for syphilis 3. Treatment and contact tracing/partner notification.The OLM will provide shared care general practitioners with the tools to identify priority populations for syphilis screening in their practice, distinguish the stages of syphilis infection based on a patient’s clinical presentation and history, and outline the process of contact tracing/partner notification after a syphilis diagnosis. It will also offer information on updated guidelines for screening in pregnancy, based on the most recent NSW Health STI Strategy. General practitioners play a critical role in reducing notifications of infectious syphilis during pregnancy, and eliminating congenital syphilis in NSW. This OLM will equip them with essential knowledge and skills to do so.

This education provides information on specific injuries and their assessment and management. It aims to provide GPs with a systematic approach to assessing the acutely injured knee and recognition of the common acute knee injuries encountered in sports medicine. With a targeted patient history, physical examination, and appropriate investigations, GPs can be well equipped to assess and manage these injuries effectively and make appropriate referrals to specialists when necessary.

The course has been developed to provide clinicians with the knowledge, critical thinking and clinical skills to confidently and competently approach the patient presenting with a cardiac arrhythmia. The course and the clinical resources provided will support clinicians to rapidly assess patients presenting with a cardiac arrhythmia, enable them to identify the patient with an unstable arrhythmia and/or one at risk for rapid deterioration and provide them with the knowledge and confidence to manage the range of cardiac arrhythmias that may present for emergency care.

This education describes how to approach the management of CKD in non-diabetic patients with high BP, including diagnosis, investigations, treatment and prognosis. This education covers the diagnosis and treatment options of basal cell carcinoma, Bowen’s disease (otherwise known as squamous cell carcinoma in situ) and cutaneous warts. Spirometry is the most common lung function test and is essential to supporting the diagnosis of asthma and COPD as well as to monitor disease progression and response to treatment. Spirometry is underutilised in primary care leading to the misdiagnosis and delay in diagnosis of asthma and COPD. This is a best practice reflective activity. The post-activity questionnaire is to be completed after reviewing the medical records of several patients with asthma or COPD who have had spirometry undertaken. This activity will assist GPs evaluate their use of spirometry and its interpretation to aid the diagnosis and management of patients with COPD or asthma.
