Description |
Hospital@home registrar opportunities
are available within the Department of Sub-acute, Aged & Community Services,
Royal Hobart Hospital for 2025. The RHH is a Level 3 teaching hospital
and the largest hospital in Tasmania. It is the referral centre for numerous
tertiary services for all of Tasmania. The Hospital@home program sits within
the Department of Sub-acute, Aged & Community Services and provides care to
a range of medical, surgical and sub-specialty patients who require medical
management that can be delivered in the community environment. The Hospital@home programme was started
in April 2020 and currently has 22 beds, 14 acute & 8 subacute Geriatric
Evaluation and Management (GEM) beds. We also have a Rapid Response service that
assesses community patients to prevent hospital admission. The service runs
7-days per week. At present we assess and admit around 200 patients a
month. Our average length of stay of 5-6 days for acute patients and 13 for
subacute. The service is currently undergoing an
expansion process and by the end of 2024 should have 30 beds. Our case mix and
the age of our patients is broad. Half our patients are admitted from the Royal
Hobart Hospital, both inpatient wards and the emergency department. The other
half are directly from the community avoiding hospital entirely. These patients
are then cared for in community health centres, their homes, or residential aged
care facilities. Our Hospital@home registrar positions have accreditation with RACP for Basic Physician Training; RACP & ACRRM for GP & Rural Remote trainees; and ACEM for Emergency trainees.
This is an excellent position for registrars who are
interested in providing inpatient level care in the community. Registrars would
have access to teaching activities provided by their specialist training
programmes as well as the teaching provided by the Hospital@home
team. Greater Hobart and Tasmania offers an
excellent lifestyle for those seeking a sea change. At the RHH, we pride
ourselves in being able to combine that with the training and opportunities our
registrars need to pursue each of their varied career goals in
medicine. Salary
