We are seeking Rural Health Medical
Specialists or Medical Officers to join Dargaville, Kaitaia and Bay of Islands
Hospitals. Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau is

serves a high Māori, high needs population and we are committed to considering
the principles of Te Tiriti in all the work that we do. Bay of Islands Hospital is located
in Kawakawa and provides care to the people of the Mid North region. The 20-bed
hospital includes comprehensive medical and paediatric services with all the
supporting services and also provides a substantial community health
service. The Bay of Islands is one of
the premier places to live in New Zealand and is ideally situated for those who
like to work, rest and play – beautiful beaches and stunning scenery with great
communities based in the Mid North area of Northland. Kaitaia Hospital is a small rural
hospital serving a widely scattered population of approximately 24,000. The
28-bed hospital has a mixed general, paediatric and maternity ward with all the
supporting services. The range of medical care managed at Kaitaia Hospital is
complex and interesting, providing care for the growing population as well as
the huge influx of tourists in the summer period. Kaitaia is the northern-most town
in New Zealand, before you get to the iconic Cape Reinga. The small town is rich
in culture and heritage and boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal
areas of New Zealand. We have created a warm; comfortable and manageable
environment and would love to hear from those interested in sharing this with
us. Dargaville Hospital is a 12-bed
rural hospital with an Acute Assessment Unit, Outpatient clinics and many
community-based services. The cases managed at Dargaville Hospital are complex
and interesting. Dargaville is a Northland river
town, that is built along the edge of the wide Northern Wairoa River, this town
is proud of its heritage and comes with an interesting history. It is a great
jumping off point from which to explore the unspoiled recreational paradise of
the Kauri Coast. Nearby also lies the Kai Iwi Lakes - great for a freshwater dip
- and the ruggedly beautiful Baylys beach. All three rural hospitals are largely
supported by Whangarei Hospital in providing secondary care services. Our teams are fun loving and
hardworking, striving for quality health care that is second to none.We are
looking for dynamic team players to provide medical care to patients presenting
to Accident and Medical departments as well as outpatients and inpatients. We
are looking for someone to ideally bring rural medicine experience however we
are open to hearing from those with the commitment to learn and grow in this
niche specialty. To be considered you must have or be
eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical
Council of New Zealand in a Rural Hospital Medicine scope of practice. If you
