The Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital on Lord Howe Island is seeking a General
Practitioner to provide services to the island’s community and visitors. This
is a rare opportunity for a General Practitioner interested in rural and remote
practice to provide quality care in an island paradise, supported by South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, visiting specialists and the Lord Howe
Island Board.
In this role you will provide
family medicine services in your own established private practice as well as
limited emergency and inpatient services to the island hospital. You will also
support the island ambulance services as required and provide the island’s
pharmacy service.
Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital has three inpatient beds and is supported by
onsite x-ray and pathology services. The hospital is managed by experienced
onsite staff, as part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
Lord Howe Island is a spectacular and historically important island located
less than 2hours flying time from Sydney. The island offers an enviable
lifestyle, perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors. A number of sporting clubs
and a golf course are also available. Daily commercial flights connect Lord
Howe Island to the mainland.
The successful candidate will be offered an Honorary Medical Officer
appointment to Prince of Wales Hospital to facilitate skills maintenance and
may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical
School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine. The level of the academic appointment
will be determined by qualifications and experience.
The applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to
demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility and
community.

Selection Criteria: - Registration or eligible for
registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide on
application. AHPRA Registration Number.
- Fellowship of the Australian College
of Rural & Remote Medicine or Royal Australian College of General
Practitioners and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the
Health Insurance Act 1973.
- Evidence of continuing medical
education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of
practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in
the provision of effective high quality General Practice services,
demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment
appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching
with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and
other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes
appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high
standard of professional behaviour to other staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work
effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues
as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to
communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an
effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated commitment to provision
of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector
setting.
