The Team:
In Primary Health North (PHN), we are committed to transforming healthcare delivery by providing high-quality, trauma informed, and patient-centred care in the comfort of patients’ homes or close to their communities. We have eight district hospitals with 132 beds and 11 Hospital in the Home beds and Community Services including Specialist Palliative Care Services, Community Rapid Response Service, Community Nursing and Community Allied Health. We also support patients through home care services, aged care assessment service, youth health and health promotion teams.
This role is an opportunity to support the provision of high quality subacute and community care across Northern Tasmania where you help influence positive experience and outcomes for our patients.
We are a collaborative and supportive team based in Launceston working closely with the Launceston General Hospital, supporting health services across the north east of Tasmania. The Role:
The newly created Medical Director position will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of community-based healthcare in Northern Tasmania. This leadership role offers the opportunity to influence the direction of patient care and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. As a key member of the PHN leadership team, you will provide a high level of strategic medical leadership and ensure the highest standards of medical care for patients receiving in-home or close-to-home services. You will do this through: Clinical Leadership: Support and leadership for the medical teams, including contracted teams, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practice across services. Innovation & Strategy: Drive innovation in healthcare delivery models, leveraging technology and best practices to improve patient access, outcomes, and satisfaction. Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate clinical performance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and continuously improving care delivery processes. Collaboration & Team Building: Foster a collaborative culture with medical officers, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to create cohesive teams and sustainable services. Patient Advocacy: Champion patient-centred care, ensuring that care is tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and their rights. Education & Mentorship: Provide ongoing education, training, and mentorship to clinical staff, promoting professional growth and a culture of excellence.

Permanent part time, day worker position, working up to 38 hours per fortnight, commencing from 6 January 2025.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies. Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $310,349 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
- Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees Eligibility:
