The Department of Health (DoH) – North
West are seeking a motivated specialist medical practitioner to manage Junior
Medical Officers, namely Interns and Resident Medical Officers.
Collaborate with the local Post Graduate Medical Council representative/s on
prevocational education and training within the North West region in accordance
with the requirements of the Australian Medical Council and the Medical Board of
Australia. The position will support the Office of the Executive Director of
Medical Services on local and State-wide responsibilities in the areas of post
graduate prevocational and vocational medical education, including delivery and
oversight. About Us
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the DoH – North West has major sites located approximately 50km apart. The DoH provides both acute and sub-acute inpatient and outpatient medical services.
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate
clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through
the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing
leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical
education program. Salary: Specialist Medical Practitioners
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation
Please note that access to the Senior
Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to
the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical
Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners
(Tasmanian State Service) Award - Salary range is in accordance with
Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 In addition, the following allowances
and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be
available: - Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
- Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- North West Retention Allowance 20%
- Generous relocation assistance

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as
- Holds specialist registration; or
Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an
International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist
qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the
speciality. *Registration/licences that are
essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times
whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time
during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that
registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their
circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a
registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions
