About Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) serves as a
pivotal Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley
region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS operates as a
cooperative, supporting a network of member services across various towns and
remote communities. Our mission and vision focus on enhancing the health and
wellbeing of Aboriginal people throughout the region, ensuring culturally
appropriate and holistic health care. We provide a comprehensive array of services, including
health promotion, social and emotional wellbeing programs, and more. KAMS also
manages the Broome headspace clinic and other clinics in the community
emphasising our commitment to quality health care for Aboriginal communities.
Position Overview We have an available 1.6 FTE. This role is being offered on
a full time or part time basis. As a General Practitioner within KAMS, you will deliver
comprehensive primary health care services aligned with best practise standards,
particularly within the ACCHO Model of Care. You will collaborate with a
multidisciplinary team to develop high-quality health services, focusing on
continuous improvement and innovation. This role includes travel to various
remote communities and active participation in local health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities - Deliver clinical primary health care services at remote
clinic sites and headspace Broome, including emergency care and telehealth
clinics.
- Engage in quality assurance initiatives and contribute to
the improvement of clinical practises.
- Supervise and mentor General Practise Registrars and
junior medical staff, fostering a supportive learning environment.

Candidate Profile Previous experience working in remote areas or with
Aboriginal communities is not essential, providing you are a strong communicator
and team player, willing to work within remote Aboriginal communities and able
to provide care to patients in a culturally appropriate manner. Not typical GP clinics, it is imperative that you can work
effectively within KAMS's pre-existing structures of governance as part of a
multidisciplinary team of Doctors, Aboriginal Health Workers, Registered Nurses,
Health Promotion Workers, and a variety of Allied Health Professionals.
- The ideal candidate will possess the following
qualifications and attributes:
- Current AHPRA registration with no conditions.
- Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General
Practitioners (FRACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
(FACRRM).
- Experience in managing emergencies in remote settings and
strong interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of Aboriginal culture and effective
communication skills with Aboriginal people.
You will also require a valid “C” class driver’s licence,
Federal Police Clearance, and a current CPR certificate. Previous experience in
the Aboriginal health sector and familiarity with mmex software is desirable.
