The Role
The MO 4 position is a non-candidate
facing, leadership role that supports the DFR Chief Medical Officer (CMO) by
providing subject matter expert advice and ensuring implementation (including
compliance) of recruiting medical policies and procedures. The MO4 team works
productively with relevant stakeholders to deliver on recruiting objectives
outlined in the National Defence Strategy, Defence Workforce Strategy and the
Integrated Investment Plan.
The MO 4 duties will include the
following: - Provide effective leadership,
strategic direction and expert medical judgement to fully actualise the
medical recruiting aspects of the DFR mission.
- Lead CMO Office staff with authority
and competence including:
- Facilitation of team motivation,
cohesion, shaping workplace culture and achieving DFR outcomes,
- Development and oversight of medical
staff training processes,
- Development and implementation of
quality assurance and research activities,
- Supervision of staff including
robust staff performance management,
- Liaison with relevant contractors on
workforce development and personnel issues.
- Exercise professional delegations as
outlined in relevant APS and Defence policy including (but not limited to)
occupational medical fitness determinations, waiver assessments, reviews of
decision and funding approvals.
- Provide quality advice to senior
staff including preparation of briefing material, correspondence and reports
on relevant policy, governance and performance initiatives for DFR CMO and DFR
Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) as directed.
- Establish and review governance,
standards and procedures for DFR medical recruiting services operations; this
may include conducting audit and quality assurance activities when
required.
- Use initiative to identify and
manage risk and recommend courses of action to DFR CMO and DFR DCMO.
- Establish an effective stakeholder
network across Joint Health Command and the DFR contracted health provider in
support of recruiting outcomes.
- Additional duties, tasks and
responsibilities as determined by the DFR CMO, in support of DFR
requirements.
This role is eligible for an additional
remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment
(BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base
salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement
(DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are

About our Team
The Medical Officer 4 – Senior Medical
Advisor (MO4) role at Defence Force Recruiting Headquarters works within the
Directorate of Recruiting Health Services (DRHS) of Defence Force Recruiting
(DFR) and supports the strategic and operational direction of the DFR Chief
Medical Officer (CMO). The CMO team is comprised of ADF, APS and Contracted
Professionals. The MO4 role provides critical support to ADF recruitment and
capability objectives by facilitating expert and timely occupational medical
assessments to match the right candidate to the right role.
