| Description |
If you’re a GP Anaesthetist looking for
a regional locum that genuinely respects your scope, this opportunity in
Leongatha (Gippsland, Victoria) offers a clearly defined GPA-first role within a
well-supported hospital setting. Anaesthetics always take priority in
this role. Urgent Care work is secondary, flexible, and only undertaken when
anaesthetic demand allows. This creates a balanced, lower-pressure locum option
for experienced rural doctors. The Location
Leongatha sits in the heart of South Gippsland, surrounded by rolling green farmland at the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges. It is a key regional service town, supporting a broad rural catchment and playing an important role in healthcare delivery across the district.
For doctors, Leongatha offers the kind of
regional setting that works well for locum practice. The hospital is central to
the community, the clinical need is clear, and the scope of work is well
defined. It is a town shaped by its long agricultural history, particularly
dairy farming, and that sense of purpose and practicality carries through into
how services operate.
Outside of work, the region offers space
and breathing room. South Gippsland is known for its walking and cycling trails,
including the Great Southern Rail Trail, as well as easy access to surrounding
towns such as Meeniyan, Fish Creek and Foster. Melbourne is readily accessible
by road, making Leongatha a practical option for Victorian-based doctors seeking
meaningful regional work without excessive travel. This is a location that suits doctors
who value clarity, community connection, and repeat-friendly regional
placements.
