Medical Services Population and Primary Health Care Branch
Darwin, Northern Territory
Several
full time vacancies, fixed from 03/08/2026 for 12 months
Population
& Primary Health Care (PPHC), Medical Services covers a large geographic
area. It provides a wide range of primary care services, with our medical team
servicing remote Aboriginal communities in the Top End Region, NT. We have up to
11 registrar positions, and we are seeking enthusiastic registrars to join our
dynamic team in 2026. This placement
is based out of Darwin, and each registrar has their own community they service,
along with their experienced supervisors and Primary care team, which includes
Remote Area Nurses (RANs), Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) and other
allied health staff. Some registrars visit 2 different smaller
communities. Registrars usually spend 3-4 days remote returning to
Darwin for Fridays and weekends. There is no on call or after hours, although
travel days can be long. For registrars who stay overnight some (usually larger)
communities accommodate this, otherwise communities are visited on daytrips via
plane, ferry or road. Overnight accommodation is available in
Wurrumiyanga, Pirlangimpi, Milikapiti, & Wadeye, as well as (if required)
Palumpa, Daly River, Adelaide River and Batchelor. Day trips occur to
Belyuen (via ferry) and Peppimenarti (plane). Registrars
have an excellent education program with 2 hours each Friday morning. The first
hour is for all the medical team, including Rural Medical Practitioners
(RMPs)/Rural Generalists (RGs)and Duty Medical Officers (DMOs). The second
hour is dedicated GPR/RMO education (if your roster requires you to be in
Community on a Friday you can dial in via TEAMs). Sessions focus on relevant
topics & interesting cases seen during the week & are facilitated by an
experienced Medical Educator. For those
doing Rural Generalist training we offer advanced skills (ARST/AST) in
Aboriginal Health, Remote Health and Population Health, working closely with
Menzies and other external providers for projects. All communities are MMM 6 or
7. For those needing “rural time” for their training, each day is counted
as rural i.e. 4 days remote = 0.8FTE rural. < /FONT > As a Northern
