About the role 


The Trauma Fellow will work closely with senior clinical staff, including the Trauma Clinical Lead, deliver coordinated and longitudinal care to trauma patients across the North Queensland catchment. Townsville University Hospital  is the Major Trauma Service for the region and provides tertiary Neurosurgical, Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary and Paediatric services. 

This joint clinical and research role includes: 

  • Providing high quality trauma care within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Supporting the Trauma Connect Project through education, case review, clinical liaison and service improvement
  • Contributing to trauma research, audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participating in trauma education programs and regional capability building
  • Strengthening trauma pathways across prehospital, retrieval, inpatient and rehabilitation settings 

This position may be suitable for candidates wishing to maintain a concurrent role within their specialty. A minimum commitment of 0.50 FTE is required for the Trauma Fellow component, with potential for negotiation depending on the applicant’s scope and training needs. 

About You
 

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be eligible for membership of FRACS, FANZCA, FACEM, FCICM or an equivalent specialty involved in trauma care
  • Demonstrate strong clinical capability in acute care and multisystem trauma management
  • Have an interest in trauma research, service development and improving trauma care in regional and remote settings
  • Value collaborative practice and multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Be motivated to develop advanced trauma skills and contribute to system level improvement 

This fellowship is well suited to clinicians seeking to build a career in trauma within their discipline, with a strong focus on research, education and regional trauma systems. 

Mandatory Requirements: 

Applicants must have: 

  • Possession of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia 

Appointment level will be determined by qualifications and registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
