Us: The Royal Flying Doctor Service South
Eastern Section (RFDSSE) is part of one of Australia's most respected and
trusted organisations, providing 24-hour emergency aeromedical retrievals and
essential healthcare to people living and working in remote, rural, and regional
communities. We also deliver a comprehensive range of primary and preventative
health services — including GP and nurse clinics, dental care, mental health
support, alcohol and other drug counselling, vaccinations, chronic disease
management, and telehealth. By delivering these services, we help ensure that
people in even the most remote communities receive timely, reliable
healthcare. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive mental health
assessments, management plans, and therapeutic interventions within a general
practice framework
- Participate in safety and quality
improvement activities, including audits, peer review, and
accreditation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary
teams to provide integrated, person‑centred care across rural and remote
communities
- Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and teaching to GP Registrars, junior doctors and medical students
Facilitate referrals and shared care with
specialist services, including telepsychiatry and emergency mental health
teams - Contribute to service design,
community education, and stigma reduction initiatives to improve health
outcomes
- Deliver general practice and primary
health care services across RFDSSE bases, outreach clinics, and remote
consultations
- Provide culturally safe care that
recognises
- Indigenous holistic perspectives of
health
- Demonstrate sound clinical
decision‑making, effective communication, and timely management of
consultations and results
- Maintain accurate medical records
and ensure compliance with organisational standards and policies
- Collect and interpret patient data
to identify disease profiles, maintain chronic disease registers, and
contribute to RFDS research projects
- Coordinate clinics, report on KPIs,
and support continuous improvement in service delivery
About
You: Essential: - Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM (or
working towards), with AST in Mental Health
- Demonstrated experience managing
complex mental health presentations in primary care
- Ability to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care
Strong
communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills - Ability to work independently in
remote settings and thrive in a collaborative environment
- Current AHPRA registration, medical
indemnity, and relevant emergency medicine training (or willingness to
obtain)
- Currency with BLS
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in psychiatry, psychological medicine, or mental health (e.g., Graduate Diploma or Certificate).
Experience working in rural, remote,
or underserved communities is highly desirable - Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and commitment to culturally safe care
Credentialed for hospital admitting rights (where
applicable).
