Become an NT Rural Generalist

The Northern Territory offers one of Australia's most distinctive and rewarding environments for Rural Generalist Trainees. Across the Northern Territory’s Regions – Barkly, Big Rivers, Central Australia, East Arnhem, and the Top End — you will gain an extraordinary breadth of clinical experience, deep community connection, and the kind of procedural confidence that can only come from working where it matters most.

Working in hospital and community-based settings delivering comprehensive healthcare while progressing toward your chosen advanced skill, independent practice and obtaining Fellowship. In addition, you will participate in after-hours and/or remote clinic rosters and complete outstanding vocational training requirements while balancing direct clinical responsibilities. Travel by small aircraft and overnight stays will be required to reach some work locations.

Applicants will be assessed against each designation (RGT and SRTG) and appointments will be made based on relevant experience.

To be successful you require eligibility for general and/or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and prior to commencement of employment, be a vocational rural generalist trainee with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). Appointment at the senior category requires you to hold or be close to holding Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM. Strong clinical, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a commitment to safe and patient-centred health care, ability to work effectively and culturally safe in remote environments and excellent communication skills are essential.
