Description

Director, Emergency Department

  • This is something different - Live your best life
  • Destination coastal town with waterways, national parks, and a vibrant community
  • Shape the future of high-impact emergency care

About our client

For many Emergency Medicine leaders, the professional purpose remains strong, but the environment in which the work is done can become harder to sustain. High-pressure metropolitan systems, long commutes, congestion, and constant demand can leave little space for life beyond the department. This opportunity offers something different.

Our client is a respected regional health service, only a few hours’ drive from a major city, providing high-quality, integrated care to a diverse and growing community. The health service plays a vital role in its region, delivering essential acute, emergency, community, and specialist health services, while continuing to evolve to meet the needs of the population it serves.

Why this opportunity stands apart

This is a move towards greater visibility, stronger community connection, and a more sustainable leadership context. As Director, Emergency Department, you will provide clinical and strategic leadership for a busy and important regional emergency service. This will include:

  • Leading high-impact emergency care in a respected regional health service
  • Shaping clinical standards, culture, systems, and service capability
  • Mentoring and developing a dedicated multidisciplinary team
  • Driving quality, innovation, and patient-centred care
  • Contributing to service growth and continuous improvement
  • Making a visible difference in a community that genuinely values its health leaders.

In a regional health service, leadership is personal. Your decisions are close to the people they affect. Your impact is seen across the department, the hospital, and the broader community.

A regional lifestyle with real advantages

Living in this picturesque regional setting offers an enviable blend of natural beauty, community connection, and modern convenience. You will find easy access to stunning waterways, pristine coastal parks, and endless outdoor activities like boating, fishing, skiing, and hiking, all complemented by a vibrant, welcoming community.

The lifestyle proposition includes a compelling mix of shorter commutes, less congestion, more space, affordable living, and a powerful sense of community and belonging. For senior clinicians, it provides the chance to continue doing meaningful, high-impact work while enjoying a more sustainable rhythm beyond the hospital.

For families, the region offers a welcoming community, access to schools, sport, recreation and nature, and the space to build a life beyond the demands of a metropolitan hospital environment.

Regional living provides space, balance, and community, while remaining within reach of a major capital city.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director of Medical Services, you’ll be working in a high-calibre, collegiate team with the following responsibilities:

  • Providing clinical and strategic leadership for the Emergency Department
  • Overseeing daily operations, quality improvement, and resource management
  • Fostering a culture of learning, professional development, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Championing innovation to deliver patient-centered emergency care for a diverse, growing community
  • Building strong relationships across the hospital and broader health system.

About you

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Emergency Medicine leader with:

  • Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or equivalent specialist registration
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in emergency medicine
  • A strong commitment to quality, safety, and patient-centred care
  • The ability to engage, mentor and develop clinical teams
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management capability
  • A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary leadership
  • An interest in contributing to the future of healthcare in a growing regional community.

Picture yourself starting every day with the lakes and beaches on your doorstep, affordable living, fresh local produce, and unique access to nature, all while making a real impact on a thriving regional community.
